I just read about the 89 Cherokee that would not start -- for 8 months had the same problem with my 85 cherokee 2.8, kept taking it in and it would start every time for the mechanic's -- (i was beginning to think after 15 years the car hated me!) It would intermittently not start, it would turn over but not fire up (no matter how much i sprayed starter fluid on the carb) Fianlly, one historic day, it would not start when a mechanic was around, (of course I was the one trying to start it!) and he ID'd it as the ignition module ... so far so good!
