Here's a tip from a reader on how to eliminate some of the mess of an oil change.
I don't know if you've ever changed the oil in a Mazda Miata, but the oil filter is on the side of the block, like on Nissan trucks. Well in order to keep my rack and pinion steering components clean, I place aluminum foil on all the places I think the oil may run on. I learned this trick while changing the oil on my motorcycle, when I placed foil on the header so I wouldn't get the burning oil smell when the engine got hot. After the oil has drained, pull away the foil, and your left with clean parts.
